The Three-Flat
Three-Flats are a staple of Chicago architecture and feature three floors of living space that can be divided into separate apartments. Three-flats in Chicago have a history of providing immigrant families an opportunity to afford property by living on the upper floors and renting out the lower floors.
The pedal iteration of the Three-Flat offers up three distinct fuzz sounds that ratchet up in oddness as the selector switch rises.
What starts as a gated synthy fuzz on the lowest setting becomes sharp and upward reaching in the middle, then chaotic and unruly in the top setting. Each of the fuzz sounds (but particularly the top 2 settings) react a bit differently to different pickup strengths, types, and tone settings.
So be sure to try the Three-Flat with all your different guitars (and all your friends’ guitars too).
The magic of the Three-Flat is the selector switch:
- Down - A synthy gated fuzz with a round feel.
- Middle - A bright noisy fuzz with octave-up tendencies at higher frets and good cleanup when rolling down the guitar's volume. Try messing with the guitar's tone on this
setting.
- Up - Sub-harmonic octave sounds and a deep fuzz that can create something like a doubling sound at the upper frets. This is my favorite unruly, glitchy sound.
The Three-Flat is made with modern components and features soft-touch relay switching, switchcraft jacks, and a robust metal enclosure.
Use only 9V center-negative power supplies (Boss style), preferably with isolated outputs. Using higher voltages can cause damage. Current draw is <50mA.
Made in Chicago, USA
From The Builder:
This is Tyler from Sonic Explorer, I really appreciate you checking out my pedals. I assemble each one in Chicago, Illinois (USA) by hand and put a lot into making each one sound as good as it possibly can. From soaring lead tones to delicately layered emotional passages, I cannot wait to hear all of the new noises you create using them.
