Slab is a low gain dirt pedal with a range that goes from clean-ish into overdrive and fuzz/distortion. A tube-like JFET preamp section with a James tone stack drives a responsive silicon bi-polar transistor output stage. There’s also a footswitch activated JFET boost to overdrive the preamp stage, adding more gain and harmonic saturation. The pre-gain tone stack provides control over which frequency ranges are emphasized and is a powerful tool for shaping the texture of the overdriven sound. The post-gain tone knob is a passive low pass filter to dial back any unwanted harshness and shape the final sound. Slab is recommended for use with guitar or bass into a traditional amplifier setup. Slab is an all transistor design, hand soldered with all through-hole construction except for the surface mount JFETS. Every transistor is tested before soldering, and every pedal is calibrated and tested after assembly to ensure quality and consistency. Mono in and out.

I started out like many other pedal builders, working on a design for myself that didn't exist. The majority of my design process takes place on the breadboard. I've been tinkering with electronics since high school, but I'm not an electrical engineer, so I start with basic circuit building blocks and the rest is experimentation. I'm only interested in creating new designs, plenty of people are doing great tweaks and recreations of classic circuits, but for years I've had ideas for effects that haven't been made yet and I'm slowly gaining the knowledge to make them real. Learning and exploring are what keep me excited, and I'm trying to focus that into effects that are useful for musicians.
