The Machine Elf is a muff style fuzz that uses CMOS inverters for the gain stages, giving it the classic thick fuzz character while adding some tube-esque coloring.
The tonestack in the default position is the Ram's Head voicing. It offers full frequency response, so it works well on guitar or bass.

It features the traditional Gain, Tone and Volume controls, but the addition of the following adds a range of flexibility that's hard to beat:

FAT SWITCH: Adds low end to the input signal

3 WAY MIDS SWITCH: Selectable between Scooped (Classic Muff Sound), Super Scooped for uber metal and Mid Boost

3 WAY CLIP SWITCH: Infrared Diodes for an open treble forward sound, Silicon 1N4148 for standard fuzz or BAT46 for a wooly compressed grind

CLEAN LEVEL: Mixes clean signal into the output. It is not a Blend or Mix control and allows you add clean signal independent of the Fuzz Output Volume. This implementation of clean blend is more functional than a standard clean blend control.

Machine Elf is housed in a silkscreened polished aluminum 1590BBS enclosure with top mount jacks and features True Bypass operation. A center negative 9V DC (BOSS style) power supply is required (no battery option.)

Monkey Riot Pedals

I’m Mike Purcell, and I build pedals because I love putting something into the world that people can use to spark their own creativity. My goal with each design is to deliver a sound that sparks ideas - where you plug in and immediately start playing something you didn’t expect.

Monkey Riot is a one-person DIY operation through and through. I design the circuits and PCB layouts, make the art, and assemble each pedal by hand here in-house. The exception is the silkscreening which I hand off to another local builder.

I strive to make pedals that are flexible and musical with a wide range of tones - but without sacrificing the sound quality I’m chasing. And while I’m inspired by historical pedal circuits, I’m not interested in rehashing the classics. I want to make circuits that feel unique, have some novelty, and get you excited to play.

Thanks for checking out my pedals - it means a lot. If you’ve got questions or want to talk about gear, I’m around.
