We’ve revised our well loved Green Meanie pedal for 2026.

It remains a “Big Muff Style” 4-transistor Fuzz/Distortion. The Green Meanie starts with my favorite Muff - the “Violet Ram’s Head” - and adds features to make this the most flexible 4-transistor fuzz around. Switch modes, drop the EQ, drop a gain stage for more dynamics!

So here’s the low down.

What hasn’t changed - The JDM Green Meanie has:

A full range of classic Muff Distortion/Fuzz sounds. In addition to the classic “Muff Tone Control”, this includes a “Mid” control to sculpt the tone to taste.

The “Bass” knob controls how much low end enters the circuit – this influences the way the pedal saturates. Less bass at the input creates a naturally mid-focused sound that is more controlled and overdrive-like. Crank that bass up for classic thick and fuzzy Muff tones.

A germanium gain stage, followed by a silicon gain stage. When you switch to “Green” mode, the silicon gain stage is bypassed. This leaves you with a lower gain, more dynamic pedal great for bass guitar as well as lower-gain guitar tones. Kick into “Mean” mode for full fuzz-tortion.

What’s new:

“Supa” mode removes the clipping diodes from the first gain stage. This makes the pedal into a “Supa Tonebender”, an unusual offering from Solasound from many years ago. Not quite “amazing” on guitar, this was much loved on bass – it sounds like some of the clean sound is blended back into the signal. In the right context it’s a secret weapon.

The “EQ/Off” switch lets you defeat the tone stack (aka EQ circuit). When dialed in as a ‘Muff, this creates a more midrange-rich, gutsy and aggressive distortion. When you out it in Green + Supa mode, you get a clean-ish boost (the germanium stage is a “warm drive”…) and you can now EQ this as you like. Insanely flexible

Turn the pedal into a straight up Germanium boost - simply engage Green mode + Supa mode. “Green” drops the second gain stage, “Supa” cuts the clipping diodes. You now have a buffered germanium boost.

Bypass the EQ for a full range boost, or engage the EQ to sculpt the tone of your boost to fit the mix perfectly. Bypass the EQ and trim back the “bass” knob and you have a Rangemaster!

This pedal is nuts. We have to make a video soon… Drop a line if you have any questions 🙂 joe
