Ancient Face
Ancient Face
by Sonic Explorer
The Ancient Face is capable of traditional wooly fuzz sounds that clean up great while rolling down the guitar volume.
This version of the classic round-faced fuzz has been adapted with dependable modern features including a soft-touch relay bypass system, top mounted Switchcraft jacks, and the ability to run off standard pedal power supplies (the use of a high quality isolated power supply is highly encouraged).
The Ancient Face features two new old stock (NOS) germanium transistors that are hand tested and matched to achieve the best possible fuzz sounds.
With an expanded control set you can recreate the historical fuzz sounds we all love, but can also achieve more unique and modern textures by using the added Bias and Lo-Cut controls along with the guitar's volume control.
Bias Control: 3 o'clock is the traditional bias point. Counter-clockwise reduces the voltage and produces more gated, broken sounds. On higher Bias settings, rolling down the guitar volume will result in a cleaner, less crunchy sound.
Lo-Cut: Full counter-clockwise includes the most low end and turning the control clockwise will start removing the low frequencies.
This will produce a more cutting, tighter fuzz and can let you cut through a full band mix better. Putting the Lo-Cut at about 9 o'clock you may not notice much of a difference with the guitar volume all the way up, but when you roll it down the guitar volume the sound will clean up quicker more than with the Lo-Cut full counter-clockwise.

From The Builder:
This is Tyler from Sonic Explorer, I really appreciate you checking out my pedals. I assemble each one in Chicago, Illinois (USA) by hand and put a lot into making each one sound as good as it possibly can. From soaring lead tones to delicately layered emotional passages, I cannot wait to hear all of the new noises you create using them.
